The company was initially established under a different name and operated as a specialized fire suppression and extinguisher service contractor, building the foundation of relationships with OCFA, local fire departments, and commercial property managers that still anchor Spectrum Fire Protection's business today.
Specializing in Commercial Fire Suppression
For its first 16 years, the company specialized in commercial kitchen fire suppression systems and portable fire extinguisher service. That work gave Samuel direct hands-on experience with every generation of fire suppression technology, from the first-generation systems of the late 1980s through the modern UL 300 systems used in OC commercial kitchens today. That depth of specialized experience remains a core advantage Spectrum Fire Protection brings to every restaurant, hotel, school, and commercial kitchen we serve.
Re-Established as Spectrum Fire Protection
In 2004, the company was formally re-established under the name Spectrum Fire Protection. The same ownership, the same operational standards, and the same team continued under a name that better reflected the company's expanding scope of services. That same year, Samuel obtained the California State Fire Marshal licenses for fire extinguisher service (E-2293) and fixed fire suppression systems (A-0448), positioning Spectrum Fire Protection to legally service every type of suppression system installed in Orange County commercial properties.
Earning the C-16 Fire Protection Contractor License
In 2006, Spectrum Fire Protection obtained the CSLB C-16 Fire Protection Contractor License #886810. This is the primary license required to lawfully install, modify, and maintain fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, fire standpipes, and integrated fire protection systems in California. This single credential expanded Spectrum Fire Protection from a specialized service contractor into a full-service fire protection design and installation firm, capable of taking on projects from the smallest tenant improvement to multi-million-dollar new commercial installations.
Building the Six-Division Structure
Over the next two decades, Spectrum Fire Protection deliberately built out a six-division fire protection structure covering fire sprinklers, fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems, fire pump testing, and fire hydrant flow testing. Each division was added with the goal of giving commercial property owners a single licensed contractor capable of handling every fire protection requirement on their property. This structure is what enables Spectrum Fire Protection today to manage portfolio-level fire protection programs for property managers, multi-site owners, and large commercial properties under one consolidated service plan.
Adding the C-10 License for Full Fire Alarm Capability
In 2025, Spectrum Fire Protection obtained the CSLB C-10 Electrical Contractor License, completing the licensing required to design, install, and service fire alarm systems entirely in-house, without subcontracting electrical work to a separately licensed company. Fire alarm is now Spectrum Fire Protection's fastest-growing service division, on track to become one of our largest service categories in the years ahead.
